Which of the following fractions has a decimal equivalent that is a terminating decimal?

For a fraction to have a decimal equivalent that is a terminating decimal, the fraction must, when reduced, have only powers of 2 or 5 in its denominator.

First check the fractions as written to see whether any has only powers of 2 or 5 in its denominator:

Denominators: 11, 9, 28, 48

None have only powers of 2 or 5.

Next, scan the fractions to see which can be reduced:

19, 13, and 17 are obviously prime. So, only 91/28 can possibly be reduced.

Reduce and see whether only powers of 2 or 5 remain in the denominator:

91/28 = 13/4

Only 2s remain in the denominator.

So, the decimal equivalent of 91/28 is a terminating decimal.

A. 19 / 11
B. 13 / 9
C. 91 / 28
D. 17 / 48
E. None of these

Correct answer: C
