I would hope to see this sort of question early on if I were taking the Quant section first, since it is as straightforward as can be: what is 219 divided by 9? Because answers (A), (D), and (E) are all close to one another, it is more probable that one of the three will be correct. I prefer to use long division to see what fits.

1) 9 goes into 21 two times, with a remainder of 3; thus, the first number of the answer is a 2.

2) Dropping the units digit from 219 and placing it after the 3 from the previous step now gives us 39/9.

3) 9 goes into 39 four times, with a remainder of 3; the second number of the answer is a 4.

There is no need to go any further, since only one answer choice, (E), starts with 24. (E) must be the answer.

Thanks for the practice. Good luck with your studies.

Whenever you have a question related to remainders, always try to find the nearest multiple of the divisor.

This may not seem like a direct question on remainders, but essentially, the underlying philosophy is same. Instead of asking you the value of 219/9, the question may well have been about finding the remainder when 219 is divided by 9.
In both cases, you would have ended up finding out the nearest multiple of 9 to 219.

In this question, finding the nearest multiple of 9 to 219, helps us to decide on the integral part of the answer. Based on the integral part and smart estimation, we can then zero in on the final answer without actually calculating it fully.

The nearest multiple of 9 to 219, is 216.

216 = 9 * 24.

Therefore, the answer should have a 24 in it. Clearly, that’s happening only in option E. But, if you wish to go till the last step of the solution, here is how it looks:

$$\frac{219}{9}$$ = $$\frac{216}{9}$$ + $$\frac{3}{9}$$ = 24 + $$\frac{1}{3}$$ = 24.333333…..

The correct answer option is E.

See how I broke up 219 into a multiple of 9 (216) and a non-multiple of 9(3), calculated the respective values and then added them up to obtain the final answer.
Hope this helps!
