Hello,
I am planning to apply to Columbia. I got a 670 on my GMAT and will take the exam again but I am not sure I will improve until R1 deadline therefore I am trying to understand a worst case scenario. I work at a top consulting firm and my GPA was 3.65. If I do not secure a higher GMAT around 710+ before R1, do you think I would have higher chances in R2 with a better GMAT for Columbia? Would you have a different view on the same topic for other top MBA schools in the US?

Speak & connect with adcom understand your fit in B school. Basis on that apply accordingly..
Your score seems to be at par to most schools avg so no harm in applying.

Have you considered trying the Executive Assessment (EA) instead? Columbia is one of a few full-time programs that accepts it. Otherwise, regarding R1 or R2, you should apply when your application is strongest and it doesn't sound like it's strongest with your current score for Columbia. Also, I hope you realize that the GMAT scoring scale has changed so a 710 is no longer the target score...
