While abroad in London, Samson exchanged 250 dollars into pounds at an exchange rate of 1.25 dollars : 1 pound. Samson spent 25% of his pounds over the course of his trip. When he returned to the United States, pounds were now 20% more valuable. How much money, in dollars, did Samson have after the second exchange? 1.25$ = 1p --> 5$ = 4p --> 250$ = 200p
Amount spent = (1/4)*200p = 50p
Amount remaining = 150p
Earlier: 1p = 1.25$
Now: 1p = 1.2 * 1.25 = (12/10)*(5/4) = 1.5$
150p = 150*1.5$ = 225$
Answer: C
