While many doctors are loathe to discredit folk remedies entirely, they sometimes privately react to cures for the common cold that range from teas from various herbs, cooked foods such as rice porridge and chicken soup, and placing a hot stone on the site of congestion with reactions ranging from polite laughter to disdain.
