Hi, can ayone offer an explanation for an answer? i Choose answer (a), so can anyone kindly help me understand why (a) is wrong and b is the correct answer?

"In contrast to" is generally preferred over "in contrast with", though both are technically correct. Regarding the meaning, "in contrast to" acts as a noun [His pale face stood in stark contrast to her dark hair.] whereas "in contrast with" usually stands in like a verb [She was always happy, in contrast with her friend OR His tie contrasts wonderfully with his shoes.]

Why is C wrong ?

"As opposed to" is synonymous for "instead of", which doesn't work here since "instead of" tends to mean substitution. "Instead of" also can only put nouns in parallel, whereas "rather than" can take on nouns and full clauses.

My approach-
I thought preposition "at" is required before "specific spots" so as to be parallel with "over a wide area". So, only B and C remains.

"as opposed to at" is awkward. So, chose B as answer.
