Why answering Quant wrong 1 question got only 86 score

Question

Hi, I did a Practice Exam 1 and manage to get only 1 wrong on last question on Quant (no change in any question) and get only 86 score / 92 Percentile.
I was hoping getting 1 wrong on hard question could get score around 88-89 which is my target. Now i'm curious about how to get high score in the Exam. Any idea what might be wrong and could got me better score?

The Understanding Your Score page on the MBA website provides some info regarding how Quant scores are based. The difficulty level of the questions attempted, for example, may play a part. Might be worth checking out some of the debriefs by people who've scored Q88+. If they publicly shared their score reports, you could also see the different types of performances that may get those scores.

Yeah, I think last question was easy and youndid wrong so more penalty on the score

Hi. In the gym at focus edition GMA has tried to make scores most spread out so to speak. In the previous edition, the maximum score was 51 and if you get 50, it was just one point less and 92nd percentile and if you got 49, it was 78 percentile so there was really no room or variety in scoring because so many people scored 49 or 50. So they’re trying to make the scoring less bunched up at the high-level in quant.

Congratulations on an awesome score by the way. You’re doing really well and likely will get the maximum score on the real test because it seems most people get a few hard questions and make most mistakes on careless issues.

I think getting a score such as 88 or 89 will depend on the difficulty of the question you miss. If it’s a hard question, that’s the score you’ll get and if it’s an easier one then perhaps you get 86...
