I'm asking because, as a person, I tend to be a bit more of an English/grammar lover, despite working in Finance. So, internally, I'm hoping this will be an advantage I have over "the competition." Has there been any deep (or not-so-deep) analysis into the reason behind this trend?

Googling "GMAT Geographic Trend Report Testing Year 2021" could be helpful. There is some [Percentage of GMAT Exams Taken by World Region/Country of Citizenship] info you could check out in the PDF. The US, for example, in 2021 accounted for 25 percent of all test takers.

Ultimately, it's probably good to not directly compare the Quant and Verbal section scores to each other. On the MBA website, it shows that a Q46 is a 53 percentile score on Quant but a V46 is a 99 percentile score on Verbal. If you're aiming for a score such as a 750+, you'll want to do decent if not well on both sections. Although it's true that a really high Verbal score, for example, could propel you to 750 (had a student who ended up with a 750 Q45 V48 in April for instance), fair to say the scoring on Verbal gets pretty steep at a certain point. A Q49 V44 or Q50 V42 may be more common therefore when it comes to 750+ scores.

Consider taking an Official Mock after getting a bit familiar with the material. Could help give a sense where you currently stand on each section.
