Something definitely seems off with the splits. I would double check that and then let us know what you come up with so we can help you from there. :)

Hey fellow GMAT takers,

I have been studying since last October consistently. I've taken 5 mock exams: 650, 710 (Q49 V41), 690(Q47 V38), 680 (Q48 V35), and 670 (Q49 V33)

On the official test yesterday... it turned out to be 660 (Q45 V41, but when I looked up on the score chart, shouldn't this be 700??)

So it's really puzzling to me.. why is my score going down?? How do I stop this downward spiral - help please, many thanks!

As per the Gmatclub chart for scores there is discrepancy in the above scores.
You can order an ESR for detailed reports for each section and focus on the areas that need more attention.

Hi Stella85,

To start, a 660/Q45 is a solid score (it's right around the 80th percentile overall), so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. That having been said, GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, your various score results show that you performed in the same range each time you took an Exam (680 +/- a few points) - and your Official Score is at the 'lower end' of your range.

If you're going to continue to study and retest, then it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) When you took these CATs, did you take the FULL CAT each time (with the Essay and IR sections)?

Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? Since Oct 2017
2) What study materials have you used so far? OG, Manhattan
3) When you took these CATs, did you take the FULL CAT each time (with the Essay and IR sections)? Only with IR, I left out AWA

Goals:
4) What is your goal score? 700 min
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School? When I get a min 700
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to? Kellogg (weekend program, they have rolling admission deadlines so the application dates are flexible)

Hi Stella85,

With this 660/Q45/V36, you're closer to a 700+ than you probably realize - and you could pick up all of the missing points you're after in just the Quant, just the Verbal or a mix of the two.

Based on what you've described, your studies so far have sounded "book heavy." Unfortunately, even the best books are limited in what they can teach you; they also can't force you to approach questions in a certain way and their explanations are often one-sided. This is meant to say that you might benefit from investing in some new, non-book study materials that emphasize specific Quant and Verbal Tactics.

If your application deadlines are 'rolling', then the immediate question is WHEN would you like to apply to School? That answer will help to define how you might approach this next phase of your studies. In addition, since you have the Enhanced Score Report for this Official GMAT, I'll be happy to analyze it for you if you're interested - you can PM or email it to me.
