This is really frustrating me. Why is it that I can get 8 to 10 questions wrong in quant and still land around the 47 mark but in verbal I am still stuck at 44 even when I got only 4 (ranked hard on gmatclub) questions wrong? The scoring feels so unbalanced and kind of unfair to me. And this is in the OG mocks, so it should be the official algorithm.
Hi tiktokbikbok,

You're probably aware that most test takers would love being "stuck at V44". For what it's worth, Q47 is 54%, and V44 is 98%.

Unfortunately, my quant is not so great, that's why I am trying to maximize as much of my strengths in verbal as possible. But maybe it's time to consider that I have reached my verbal limit.

Might be worth checking out some of the publicly shared V45+ ESRs. Ultimately, although it's possible to get a very high score on Verbal (had a student for example who went from a V37 to a V48 in about 30 days), fair to say the scoring on the section gets pretty steep at a certain point. A V48 for instance is the result of a single counted question being incorrect.

Thanks, that's a great idea! I'll take a look at those ESRs.

Hi tiktokbikbok,

If you can get a V44, you may be capable of getting a perfect score as well. However, improving your quant score would almost certainly do more for your total score.

All the best.
