say joe smith went to university x 13 years ago and was suspended, he then left the university and completed his ba elsewhere. he did not transfer any credits from school x anywhere.

now joe is applying to mba programs, would any record of that incident come up during any regular application review, again considering he never transferred any credits from that institution anywhere

In all seriousness, though, I've heard that business schools aren't as thorough as law schools in this regard. What was the reason for the suspension?

well drinking on campus, followed by performing a "dental procedure" on a fellow student placed joe smith on probation then a computer hacking sorta thing led to a suspension. basically stuff that's not gonna help my resume. so would i be ok in just not listing that university at all on my applications?

You should clarify with the schools, all of which have different rules.
Some schools want to know if you have been convicted of a felony, suspended form any school, placed on academic probation or even warning (in some cases)

What were you charged with? were the police involved?
