Hi, I gave my GMAT yesterday and scored 640(Q48 V27 IR8), which is well below my expectations of 700+. I am planning on retaking the exam. ISB is an important one on my list of schools. Let's say, I score a 720 on my retake. Will the past score affect my chances in ISB?

Do you suggest to cancel the score?
I still have the opportunity to cancel the score in next 48 hours.

Your past scores will not affect your chances.

You don't need to cancel the score.

Dont worry about that and simply aim for the highest score. ISB will consider only that.

On cancelling the score, it depends on (a) your confidence of scoring higher the next time round (b) whether any of your target schools are within range with a 640. Consider these factors and take a call.

Tough luck! But looking at your Quant and IR scores, I can very confidently say you are on the right track. Just work a little harder (and smarter) to improve on the verbal section. Evaluate which of the individual sections in verbal can help you cross the 700 thresholds the fastest. Maintain an error log of your mistakes and go over the questions you got wrong every few days (again and again! This worked great for me).

I would not recommend canceling the score as it could happen that in your next attempt, your Q score goes down (it should not but just in case). The schools will readily accept the best of both exams as long as the other aspects of your profile are in great shape. If you can increase your overall GMAT score, it also shows your hard work and commitment to improving on the academic aspect.

No, your past score will not affect your chances; ISB will only consider your highest score.
