Williams school has a total enrollment of 800 students. A mathematics fair was held at that school for three days recently. How many students among those enrolled in the school attended the fair on exactly two days?
(1) 10 percent of the students enrolled in the school did not attend the fair even on one day.
(2) Of the students enrolled in the school, 80 percent attended the fair on exactly one of the three days and 80 attended the fair on all the three days.
Solution
Given : Total enrollment of students = 800
Fair was held for three days
To find : No. of students attended fair on exactly two days
Statement 1 Insufficient
10 percent of the students enrolled in the school did not attend the fair even on one day.
800 * 10/100 = 80 students did not attend the fair even on one day
Statement 2 Insufficient
Of the students enrolled, 80 percent attended the fair on exactly one of the three days and 80 participated at the fair on all three days.
80% of 800 = 640 ( attended the fair for exactly one of the three days)
Students attended the fair on all three days = 80
When we combine both statements we get the conclusive answer
Total students = 1 day + 2 days + 3 days + Neither
800 = 640 + x day + 80 + 80= 800-800 = 0 day
Hence, Option C
