Hi - thanks for writing! You are right that GMAT averages are higher for the FT vs. the PT programs. For Haas and UCLA, you're right around the average GMAT scores for those schools, and for USC a bit higher. That said:
- Given that your GPA is below 3.0 (and that for competitive programs such as these, it doesn't hurt to have an edge regardless) I would recommend retaking, especially since you have time before completing your applications
- That said, for PT programs professional impact and potential is the most important. So, if you feel that the time you spend could be better spent on a significant new work responsibility/pursuing a promotion, do take that into account
Hope that helps!

Hey there! I am deciding whether I should retake the GMAT, which I took once and received a 680.
I will probably apply for
Part-Time MBA at UCLA, USC, and possibly UC Berkeley. I know if I wanted to apply for Full Time, then I would definitely need to shoot for a 700+. However, I am not sure how competitive part-time is, so I have a hard time deciding what to do next regarding my score. Here is my profile:
School: a Top 25 school
Undergrad Major: Chemical Engineering
GPA: 2.95
Grad Year: 2014
GMAT: 680 - Q47 V36
Work Experience
1.) Worked as a chemical engineer in the energy/mining industry for two years.
2.) Now working as a management professional in the retail industry. Gaining extensive managerial and leadership experience.
Extracurriculars
1.) Running a nonprofit startup in Southern California, and will be assuming the position of president of the organization
2.) Has been involved in the organization since 2015. Moved up to the position of president; previously a program director.
What do you think my odds are? I plan on applying in 2018 or 2019. Should I retake?
Thank you
