B because "which" refers to women here who will "will ultimately place.." And this is wrong.

Close call b/w A & D for me. Finally, picked A.

'The majority' should be singular therefore 'is' should be used not 'are'. Eliminate B, C.

'expected for' is incorrect in E. Elim.

Close call between A and B - and I discounted A for the exact same reasons as above.

a trend that will ultimately place can be dissected as -

A trend (subject)

will place (Main Verb - future tense)

Ultimately - adverb modifying will place.

There's no redundancy here.

Path, how did you eliminate (D)? I know I can eliminate (E) because of 'which'. In (E), 'which' refers to 'fall'.

I also have another analogy to counter your reasoning. In GMAT grammar, it is correct to start a sentence with "It is hoped that.....".(Remember.."Hoping" is wrong..)

Then why is not correct to start the sentence with "It is expected that"?? After all, expect and hope are somewhat similar in meaning....
Is there any other reason for eliminating (D)?

reason to eliminate D.
It is expected that....., a trend....
clause begining with "a trend" is appositive clause modifying the previous clause. D gives the impression that expectation is a trend -- that is wrong.
trend is not expectation, it is that majority of student blah blah...

Can't wait to see the OA. If you are happy with the explanation, then do it fast:) -- I should correct that. ...do "so" fast.

There is no OE. OA is B. Based on general consensus and little bit of my own understanding......

---passive, appositive - "a trend ultimately placing" is happening simultaneously as women are entering the law school. Actually, it is only a result (ultimately) and is not simultaneous.

---Correct Answer, better than A, "trend that will ultimately" is not simultaneous

C The majority of students entering law school this fall are expected to be women, which will ultimately place

I did not get why A is passive.

A. Women are majority of students

I did not get why A is passive.

A. Women are majority of students
B. Majority of students are women. Why is A passive and B active? I thought both are same. Please...

I think you are right. On some thought, both are active. If the voice is to be passive, then the sentence should go like this: "Law school is being entered by students, a majority of whom are women". (I know, 'being' is not right in GMAT unless it "HAS" to be used...)

Even otherwise, the second part of the sentence:"a trend ultimately placing" is not right. So it can still be eliminated.

In any case, good that I can better understand the correct answer choice for my own posted question.
