Mike and Joey bought identical loaves of bread and packages of bologna.
Mike made sandwiches with 5 slices of bologna and had 4 slices of bread left when he ran out of meat.
Joey made sandwiches with 4 slices of bologna and had 4 slices of meat when he ran out of bread.
Asked: How many slices of bread were in each loaf?
Mike and Joey bought identical loaves of bread and packages of bologna.
Let Mike / Joey bought 2x loaves of bread and y packages of bologna.
Mike made sandwiches with 5 slices of bologna and had 4 slices of bread left when he ran out of meat.
bologna = y = 5(x - 2) = 5x - 10
Joey made sandwiches with 4 slices of bologna and had 4 slices of meat when he ran out of bread.
y = 4x + 4
y = 5x - 10 = 4x + 4
x = 14
y = 5*14 - 10 = 4*14 + 4 = 60
There were 2*14 = 28 slices of bread in each loaf.
