Which is better for bschool application?

My work experience is best described as fragmented. I've jumped around quite a bit in various industries. In the worst light, it definitely shows lack of focus and leadership.

So I'm at a cross road. A managerial position has opened up and I may be offered the position. But I am currently in a field that I will not be pursuing after bschool. So I guess the question is, which looks better, a leadership role in a non-pursuant field or a lowly assistant/junior position in the industry I plan to pursue?

I guess the breakdown would be
manager now = better for application
industry now = better for post bschool job application

What do you think?

What would you enjoy more? Honestly, unless one of these is a PE position I don't think its a big deal one way or the other.

I think jumping into my target industry would be more fun. But, I think lacking leadership might kill my application.

Any other thoughts?

leadership does not have to equal being a manager. you can demostrate leadership skills in any position... search around the forums for threads about leadership, you might be able to get you cake and eat it too :)

First post on this forum, pretty pumped about all the info floating around this site.........and I'm sure this question has been askedmany times, but what the hay

So.....what if the spark for the MBA pursuit originated because an individual realized their current field was not of relevant interest to him? Does this person stick it out in the leadership position already attained or does one float around trying to get started in an industry in which they have no experience?

I would have nothing specific to offer in my concentration of choice, is this a major deal?
