Hi,
I plan on applying in Round 1 to Wharton, Booth, Kellogg, Columbia (considering ED), and NYU. I have a competitive profile (740 GMAT, 3.5 GPA with 2 undergrad degrees from Penn State). However, I was recently laid off from my job. I had done just under 5 years of commercial real estate acquisitions for a large international fund manager and was promoted twice (including just 2 months prior to being laid off).
How concerned should I be about this? I have the luxury of not being forced to grab any job I can get, but will schools ding me for having a gap from July- October? I have also considered taking a year to do volunteer work and take online classes, since I plan on attending school next year anyway. Will this be viewed negatively by schools?
Should I be more focused on finding work right now or will it be valuable to use my time becoming more active in the community?
Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
