The first time I wrote my GMAT, I got a 620 in gmat with 2 months prep. Of course my prep was not a solid amount enough to get a great score. I wrote it anyway and got a 620 Q 44, V-29. It seemed liked I needed work in both the areas. I then thought of joining a course in order to push myself and write it once again. I joint the Princeton Review accelerator course where they provide one on one training for students who have got more than 600 in the actuals or mocks. This helped me focus on my weak areas such as geometry in quant and RC in verbal. My quant teacher, was a great source of motivation and worked with me to get my target of 700 plus and a quant of 49 or more. He got to great shortcuts and simple methods to improve my speed in quant. For verbal as well both RC and CR were my weaknesses, but my teacher was able to streamline my thinking and help me structure my reading and elimination. I was happy with the improvement I was seeing however I had too many breaks in between because of official and personal reasons and hence couldn't study continuously. my first advice would be to put everything else aside while studying! I then prepared for a month and a week before the test managed to get a 700 via GMAT prep. It was test day and I got a 650 in hand, Q49, V-29. I was very happy with Quant but I was VERY surprised with my verbal as I thought saw massive improvement from the last time and I was also doing well during tests with about V 35 on tests. Maybe it was my nerves on test day- I have no idea. I got a 5.5 on AWA so I was hoping that would somewhat help in my application despite the low Verbal score. I was looking to apply at ISB, however wasn't too sure if I would make it after the test. However, Princeton and my quant teacher told me to apply stating that I had a colorful profile and I stood a chance. So I took the plunge and applied anyway. Its the only place I applied and I took a huge risk of putting all my eggs in one basket.
........................................................and what happened? Yes I got into ISB
