A team of twenty four workers was on a job that could be finished in 70 days. Ten more workers were hired on the first day and 8 more on the 36th day. How many days earlier would be the job be completed?

Asked: How many days earlier would be the job be completed?
Work required = 24*70 = 1680 man-days
Let us assume that work was finished x days earlier than schedule time of 70 days
34*35 + 42*(70-35-x) = 24*70 = 1680
34*35 + 42(35-x) = 24*70= 1680
35-x = 14*35/42 = 490/42 = 11 28/42 = 11 2/3 days
x = 35 - 11 2/3 days = 23 1/3 days earlier
It is assumed that once man-power is hired it continued to work for days ahead.
