Hi kk07734,

Your studies so far appear really 'book-heavy', which might have inherently caused some problems. Many Test Takers who use that type of study approach end up getting 'stuck' at a particular scoring level, so it would be a good idea to assess your current abilities. As such, I highly recommend that you take a FULL-LENGTH CAT (including the Essay and IR sections), so we can see how you perform relative to your last Official GMAT. Once you have that set of scores, you should report back here and we can talk through the rest of your study timeline.

What is your goal score?
When are you planning to take the GMAT?
When are you planning to apply to Business School?

Last practice test was last week. Got a 650 using one of my 2 free cats from GMAC.
Got a 650, but had to guess 10 due to time.

Requirement: 720+ Goal: 750

Not for MBA, but for Doctoral admissions.
Have till October if needed.
Will probably test again in about a month.

Hi kk07734,

I'd like to know a bit more about this CAT:

1) What were your Scaled Scores on the Quant and Verbal sections?
2) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR sections)?

3) When you say that you had to guess on 10 questions, which section were those 10 questions in? Were they the last 10 questions?

Quant 46, verbal 34, Skipped essay did IR.

All Guesses in Quant, Guessed 2 at around question 12, 2 more around question 20 a few more at 30, then ended up with 2 min left over...

I have yet to run out of time on verbal, In fact I need to slow down as I have had as much as 15 min left.

Hi kk07734,

With these Scaled Scores, and your score goal, you're going to have to make some adjustments/improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. As you continue to study, you MUST make sure to take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) each time.

Many Test Takers have the Verbal pacing 'issue' that you described. You likely felt so 'rushed' to finish the Quant section on time that you 'carried' that feeling into the Verbal section and rushed a bit through that section. All of that extra time could have been spent taking more notes, doing more careful work, etc. and scoring higher in that section.

Have you considered investing in a GMAT Course of some type? Given the work that you've done so far, you would NOT need to start from scratch, but the consistent guidance and structure of a Course would likely make it easier for you to improve.
