Hey people. I am new to this site but have found the postings to be very informative. I need some help. Heres my story.
I studied for the gmat for about 3 1/2 months. I took the test yesterday and got 510 (Q31, V30). I would like to score at a minimum 600. My target is 650. I have the following test prep material:
Kaplan w/cd
Kaplan verbal
Kaplan math Gre/Gmat
Arco math Gre/Gmat
Kaplan Gmat 800
PowerPrep
I only took two kaplan tests on their cd. The scores were: 510, 570
Powerprep scores were: 600, 570
I worked really hard. I know i have issues with timeing, and with having to re-read over and over before a question actually sinks in.
I am willing to work, but I need some help. Do you guys think that I can get the score I am working for? What can I do?
Please help.

I would suggest you to do the Official Guide tests. They give good practice. Though it's surprising that you got only 510 while you could do well on Kaplan tests as well as the others. Think back and see where you had difficulty, what parts consumed majority of the time, etc. Then you can work on those. Timing is really the key, and as you mentioned you have timing problems, you can figure out what type of questions take up the most time for you and try to find quicker way of doing them.

I would echo sentiments about OG tests. If you can get your timing down on those questions, you will improve your scores because of the familiarity you will have with the problems on test day. Some have spoken on these boards about the difference in difficulty between OG math and real GMAT math, but I personally found them to be quite similar at a decent (Q44) scoring level.
I have been practicing for several months already, using Kaplan's gmat 2003, math and Verbal workbooks. I think the crucial thing to do right now is to plunge into correction work - analysing mistakes, clasifying them, making an error worksheet, looking for reference in theory and promising to yourself not to repeat the same mistakes never again (I used to repeat the same mistake over and over again untill I understood that I could improve significantly if I get rid of this bad practice.) I think if you figure out in what areas you are particularly weak and what makes you perform bad, this is 50% of what is required to do to boost the score. Another 50 is practicing. Since I have too little time left (i take the test on October 7), I'll quickly study the theory in particular areas then I'll start practicing again. I have problem with timing, which I think comes from bad knowledge of question types.
I am resceduling my test day over and over for almost a year now. My goal is 700+ and taking the test right now is useless waste of money as I'm not ready yet.
