It's a regular jungle out there. I attended the QS World MBA Tour in New Delhi about a month back. The top schools that came were Darden, Rotman and Vlerick. I had hoped for more so this turnout was a little disappointing. I had registered online so I wouldn't have to register at the fair. This way you got to save Rs.100/-. There were 2 desks at the entrance, 1 for those who had registered online and the other for those who had not yet registered. There were way too many people in the pre-registered queue, or what was supposed to be a queue anyway. Even the WMT staff were surprised at the masses pushing past each other - Maybe they'll know what to expect next time. They even tried to get everyone to stand in a line a few times but soon gave up. I found myself stuck here because I had pre-registered but about 20 minutes later I had progressed nowhere in this crazy queue so I went over to the other desk for those who hadn't pre-registered online. They were only a handful of people here and I easily filled the forms here, got my admit sticker and went in. The sanity of it all was worth the extra 100 bucks and the free TopMBA magazine I got, which is reserved for the first 100 entrants. I'm not sure if you'll still get it even if you are not in the first 100.
Before the fair opened, there was a Q&A session with the Darden, Rotman and Vlerick representatives in another hall. After this the fair started. As expected the tables of the 3 schools I mentioned were the most crowded with Darden's being the most crowded. Darden even had 3 '09ers with them at the tables.
Towards the end of the fair there was a MBA Masterclass conducted by Rotman's Asst Dean Richard Powers. It wasn't like a real class because like he said he would have to speak more than us. It was a good experience and his energy level was what I liked the best.
So overall an average experience. You'll need to be careful when you enter the fair because people will be pushing past you to get in like it happened with me in the pre-registered *line*. You won't get much time to talk to the School staff becasue others will be probably be cutting you off but in Darden's case it was easy to get to talk to the 09ers they had got along.
One more thing, Darden and some other schools had a diary on their tables for students to fill in with their names and admit card #'s. I was surprised to see only 1 person before me had made an entry into Darden's diarty. Sure enough I made the entry too. Not sure what it was for but maybe Darden now has a record that I visited them at the fair and showed interest? I advise you do the same when you go.
