I would love feedback on my situation. I've read some related threads but would love to hear feedback given the context of my situation overall. I am trying to decide whether I am ready to apply, or if I need to re-take the GMAT to be competitive at top schools.
First diagnostic (Manhattan):
90th percentile verbal
9th - yes NINTH - percentile in quant
I studied and studied for months, and was miserable and filled with anxiety, and finally took an official GMAT.
Official GMAT:
710 / 91st percentile overall
46 / 99th percentile verbal
42 / 45th percentile quant
8 / 93rd percentile IR
6 on AWA
I would like to be competitive for the usual top schools, within a certain geographic area: HBS, Sloan, Wharton, Columbia, or Yale.
My question: Would it be worth the money, time, and frankly, the misery, to try to raise my quant score?
Other info about me:
3.7 GPA in humanities major from top 5 liberal arts college
4 years work experience at eye-catching company in sexy roles that have given me unusual and challenging experiences for a person of my age
Company has strong track record of placing people at HBS/Stanford/Kellogg (albeit with better quant scores than mine)
Experiences both inside and outside work that round me out as a human who could contribute to a business school environment
Probably not a huge value-add but I did HBX CORe, passed with honors
Hey Mate,
If I were to answer your question in just one sentence, I would say "Yes, its worth every penny, every second of ur time and every ounce of ur energy."
Now going into detail, I understand u are probably exhausted, so you can try some smart ways like finding out your weakness (I know its Quant but what exactly in Quant - Statistics, Algebra, Geometry ??) and then putting in focused effort on those topics, working on representative questions only and concentrating on quality rather than quantity can help you improve your score with optimum efforts.
Now, how to find your weakness :
Look into your practice error logs (if you have maintained one), exam error logs (which is usually available with all standard MOCK CATs providers) and see
(1) in which topics your accuracy sucks - that's where u can improve the most.
(2) in which topic you have decent accuracy but your speed is not upto the mark - that's where u can work on ur speed by practicing similar questions
Those two are at the top of my head, we can get some more insights from your exam and practice error logs.
Since you are already score 99th %ile in Verbal, I would strongly suggest putting some more effort in Quant and get that coveted 760 which will significantly improve your chances to get into HBS and others considering your awesome profile !!!
Hope that help!!!
