Maybe I got up on the wrong side of the bed today, that's why I'm feeling a little grouchy today, but the two posts above are quite uncalled for, and dare I say BW-esque.

From a few lines on an online article, we are going to jump to conclusions about one person's efforts in IB recruiting, and another person's capability in his previous job? Really? Especially given how tough the job market is right now, especially in finance. Graduates from UE schools, some with pre-MBA finance experience, are finding a hard time getting finance jobs, and you're mocking career switchers without the same pedigree for failing at breaking into the finance industry? Seriously.....

Although I see where your coming from. I believe what the two above posters were meaning to do was to shine light to others on the board not to take these negative perspective articles pumped out by media as a basis to get cold feet before starting their MBA.

When I read articles like this, it makes me question the credibility not of the people quoted in the articles, but the positioning the media is trying to take. Why the constant negative perspective. Nothing ever positive. They are amplifying the negative ripple effect.

You will see people at every school that failed even during great times to reach their goals. There are plenty of folks that got their dream job/internship this year...yes probably fewer than during a really good year.

I agree the posts do come across as a little snide though...but I think a lot of people are getting sick of reading all the negative press.

The intent of my post wasn't to disparage the guy, I was trying to infer he was actually worse off than he stated.

The guys base salary was most likely $60K/yr. If he was even doing an average job as a sales rep, his total comp is more likely $70-90K/yr. If he take a $60K/yr job after his MBA, he's likely making less money than before his MBA.

Ouch!

Because negativity sells.
