Buddy, I guess Tanvi gave you a lot of power!! :wink:

Laxie,
Buddy, can you just check above? the edit portion? am I missing something? :stupid

Well, Tanvi is cool, enjoying :-D She has learnt so many things, she tries to mimic what we talk or do. It's fun watching her :)

hik, sorry buddy, i just editted. It's " x is not equal to 0" :oops:

buddy, you know children are extremely sensitive to learning around the age of Tanvi ....they will learn a lot from their parents' emotional expressions. Just keep showing her all your happiness and smiling so that she'll be an optimistic person later!! ^_^

x and y are integers. x is not equal to 0. Find the value of y, knowing that x+y+xy=0

A. 2
B. 1
C. 0
D. -1
E. -2

x+y+xy = 0 --> x(y+1) +y = 0 ---> x(y+1) + (y+1) -1 =0
---> (y+1) (x+1) =1

Because x and y are integers ---> (y+1) and (x+1) must be factors of 1
We have two cases:
(y+1) = 1 and (x+1) =1
OR ( y+1) =-1 and (x+1) = -1
But the first case yields x= 0 ---> eliminate
The second case stands ---> y+1= -1 ---> y=-2

OA is E.
Good job, everyone~!! :)

x+ y + xy = 0

===> 1/x + 1/y = -1
put value of Y from the given choices and try to find out X.

from the give choices

Only E satisfy the condition that both x and y should be an Integer.
