I had my interview, class visit, tour etc. Overall, a very positive experience. The interview was short and quite relaxed.

Thats great.....any luck from other schools??

Finally the deafening silence was broken, I just got an interview invite from Yale. Does anybody know what percentage of applicants they interview? I know they use second-year students so I assume this means they're not as selective about invites as somewhere like MIT where you know if you get an invite you've got a pretty good shot.

johnny -

rock on with your bad self!

I am assuming that Yale is fairly selective with their interviews this year, if only becase they're being so selective this year anyway. (And because I didn't get an interview. Sour grapes are tastey, if you pour some sugar on top.)

Anyway, congrats to you!

Congrats man! They claim to have interviewed 40-50% of applicants in the past - it may be different this year. Interviews are short and quite informal. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions about the interview/visit etc.

Thanks guys.

YB, anything catch you off-guard in the interview?

When I visited campus I had lunch w/ some kids who had interviewed that day and they said basically they were just asked to go over their resume and "talk about themselves."

No, nothing out of the ordinary. Well, I didn't get "why Yale"!!! That was a bit surprising. He only asked me 3-4 standard questions and then asked if I had any questions for him. I talked to other interviewees and they said they had short interviews too.

While I should be happy I have been invited for an interview, it's still 380 miles for me to schlep up there. How short was your interview?

YB, thanks for the info. Kind of disappointing that they don't really get into much detail in the interview. Also I'll be going down the night before and staying in a hotel, not like it's that expensive, but kind of a hassle for a 30 minute interview.

I stayed sorta outside New Haven when I went to visit last spring. The place was cheap and sorta basic as you get. It was like 15min to get to Yale driving accross downtown. But it wasn't bad and certainly worth the savings.

I did the same thing last month when I visited the school, stayed in an EconoLodge which is pretty ghetto, but yeah, easier on the wallet than most places in town and only like ten minutes from Yale.
