to clarify, I was referring to the GMAT and GPA requirements...NYU might be fractionally harder to get into, but Yale's acceptance rate goes down every year. I think more people apply to NYU in total as it's a very popular finance school, so they turn away a larger portion of people. at any rate, Yale is a great school and has been getting more attention lately. the new dean there is from Booth, I believe

While Yale has greater brand recognition than NYU, Stern is a stronger overall b-school than Yale SOM. I'm sure a lot of elitist types apply to Yale simply because it's known to be one of the strongest IVY's and it sure does sound good to say "I go to Yale," compared to "I go to NYU/Virginia/Michigan." (Especially to people who don't know about b-schools/95% of Americans) This is why I think the GMAT/GPA stats at Yale are a bit higher despite now having a cumulative ranking of 15th.

Yale's numbers seem higher than NYU, but Yale has a much smaller school and the impression I'm getting from NYU is that it has a bigger footprint than Yale.

At the same time, Yale is a super-elite institution and a better all around university than NYU.
