Hi Everyone,
I need to clear my mind on which school to attend. It would be great to hear your advices. I am currently deciding between Yale SOM (No $) vs. Darden UVA (Half tuition scholarship). I already visited both schools and liked the environment at both.
I work in South America in management consulting and have experience in M&A. My short-term goal is to work in IB in the US and then come back to my country to work in PE in the long term.
SOM:
+ IVY league brand recognized in my country
+ Rising SOM Brand with new dean which might attract better job opportunities
+ It is becoming a core school for big banks as I have heard from current students
+ Proximity to NY- better networking opportunities for IB
+ Good employment stats for IB
+ Small class size
-No $
Darden:
+ Case Method
+ Recognized MBA brand in the US
+ Small class size
+ Bigger Alumni network
+ Good employment stats for IB
+ Scholarship
- Difficult to network in NY due to remote location.
-Not recognized in my country

Congratulations on your offers to both programs.
I agree with your Pro and Con evaluations. Darden is a strong business school but as you pointed out Yale's name is stronger (not BSchool so much but Yale overall). Darden seems to lack some sexiness that other top 10 seem to carry, which I would take a compliment since you have to work much harder to get into the top 10 without something special about you.
My main concern would be the low employment numbers (70%) out of Yale upon graduation. 3-months later looks OK but employment at graduation indicates softness and weakness in schools recruiting and career services team. Have you found out if there are IB clubs or something like that (or PE) at either school? That would not mean a whole lot but better than nothing.
I don't think you will go wrong with either school. Yale will definitely have a strong recognition abroad but Darden is known among the MBA's and those in the know, so while it may not have the pizzazz needed to impress a bar tender, it will get the job done in the PE/IB world.
