UVA (Darden) offers an elite program in the "liberal arts" model: a generalist program of relatively small size located in a remote area. Like other schools in the liberal arts/ generalist model, there is an emphasis on the full-time study of business. As you have undoubtedly read before, UVA stresses the case method as a learning tool.
UVA is located in Charlottesville, Virginia- a city of roughly 40,000 people about 2 hours from Washington DC.
The center of the distribution tends to be near 3.3/680. Students with scores below 600 make up a small fraction of matric.s (less than 5% in 2003 and 2004).
Placement appears to be consistent with other schools in this cluster. For instance, relative to UC Berkeley UVA had more placements at McKinsey one year, an equal number another year, and fewer placements in two years. Relative to UCLA, UVA had more placements at ATK one year and fewer in a second year. Relative to Yale for Booz Allen, UVA led two years and Yale SOM led two years. Relative to Cornell for ATK, Cornell led two years and they tied one year.

FT 2003 ranks Virginia #14 worldwide - above Duke and UC Berkeley and below IMD and Yale. FT2001 placed UVA #22 worldwide- below Carnegie and UNC.
