My experience so far, as the journey has just begun !
I passed my Bachelor of Engg in 2002 and since then I have been nurturing the dream of joining a MBA course. Did give couple of CAT attempts but none of the scores were good enough. After two attempts I decided to gain enough work experience so that I could take GMAT and be able to apply for executive MBA course.
My GMAT journey started in Dec-2013. I spent couple of weeks researching various forums to identify study material and the schedule i should be following. Eventually, I decided to use the GMATCLUB as sole source for online prep and used the OG and the
Manhattan GMAT ebooks for offline prep. Other key resource that I used for my prep was
Error Log and 3 month study plan shared on this forum. After gathering all resources I gave my blind GMAT Prep test on 21-Dec and scored 550

!
Hence, I decided to follow 3 months study plan as well as book my GMAT test (22-Apr) to ensure that I stick to it. After 6 weeks of study covering the concepts from OG-12 and some portions of
MGMAT, I gave the free Kaplan test on 7-Feb and scored 610 which gave me some confidence that I am on right track. I continued my study plan and gave free GMAT test from
MGMAT, GMAT Tutor, and the 2nd free test from GMAT every fortnight (on weekends). While I gave these tests, I continued capturing the details in
error log and worked on 10 to 15 problems for my weak areas during the weekdays. Unfortunately, all the tests were showing that I am equally weak in Quant (DS) and Verbal (SC), which meant that I had to spent equal amount of time on Quant and Verbal.
In April month, I covered additional questions from OG-Quant and OG-Verbal Review using the threads from this forum to get maximum exposure to GMAT questions. Finally 1 week before the actual test day I reset the GMAT prep test and took the final test. To my surprise I got score of 730 and I was elated with the score but also realized that some of the questions were repeated and I might have sub-consciously picked specific answer choices, and hence got high score. 5 days prior to exam I spent majority of time reviewing and re-doing the questions I had got wrong during the last 2-3 months. Most of the times I got majority of questions right 2nd time around and this again boosted my confidence.
Finally on the day of exam I started my day early than normal and reached the exam center 15 min before time. Completed all the formalities and started my exam. AWA was comparatively easy and was completed within time but IR was very tough. I thought I had done at least 5/12 questions right. Took the 10 min break and decided to focus in Quant section. I completed my Quant sec 8 min ahead of time. This made me feel either I have done or too bad. Took extra caution to use all the time cautiously during the Verbal sec but still ended up finishing 5 min before time. The worst movement came when I saw my score, miserable 600 with IR score of 1. In one moment all the hard work put in for 3 months looked futile.
After sleeping over this setback I decided to take 2-3 weeks of break and then give the 2nd attempt in June. This time I reduced on number of questions I attempted every day but focused only on
MGMAT prep books thoroughly and bought the
MGMAT prep test. After 1.5 month of additional study I was again reaching 650 score on all GMAT tests, last test was 680. Gave my 2nd GMAT in June and took extra caution to spread time across all the questions. AWA and IR was similar to 1st attempt, Quant and Verbal sec went much better than last time.
