Hello fellow GMATClubians…
My name is Shiv…I have been almost a silent member of this community since a couple of months (I must admit that I have been a lurker for quite sometime!!). I just took my GMAT and got my desired score (730 – 49, 41). I am very happy right now and now am all excited to move to the 3rd step – my application essays.
In case you guys are wondering, the 1st step was to convince my heart that MBA is the next logical step in my career. I have a background in bio-med and have been working as research scientist for 8 years now. Although I love doing research, I feel its time for me to move on the other side of the pasture where folks decide the turn that the research takes. Yes – into strategy…So that is where MBA fits in (hopefully from Tuck or Harvard, but lets see what is in store.)
Before I get too dreamy about my future, I will briefly share my GMAT experience. Here is a high level snapshot of my GMAT preparation calendar.

1. Quant
a. Prepare - To brush up my basics, I used
MGMAT quant guides.
b. Practice –
OG and GMATprep & Grockit tests
2. Verbal
a. Preparation Stage 1 –
MGMAT SC & Powerscore CR. Even though I felt very good while reading these books, my performance did not improve. I felt I was overwhelmed with the theory and had little too less for practice. (RC was not a problem for me. I guess all these years of reading and reading and reading paid off here too!! Should thank my big brother for this…I always competed with him in this regards Sibling rivalry does help after all…)
b. Preparation Stage 2 – Then I stumbled on
e-GMAT course. Luckily I took the diagnostic test that they had posted on GMATClub. I was impressed by the detailed step by step solutions for these diagnostic questions. Purchased the complete course that they offer. Took GMAT strategy session and understood the importance of working on accuracy first. So I diligently followed their best practices, including solving each SC and CR question using the method that they teach.
c. Practice –
e-GMAT UGE for SC, Grockit for SC and CR, recordings of
e-GMAT live sessions (each session had about 5 difficult questions – so solved those and got good practice)
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. I will be happy to help. Now I am off to doing some introspection – yes you guessed it right…for my essays!!!
