I am not sure what to think about this score, is it very low? I think about doing my gmat. I realized that quantitative wasn’t fresh, so that should with efford be abled to get better. Verball will be a though case as I never been good at writing/ grammar. I feel discouraged what would be a good study service? Is 650+ a realistic goal with 2 months of 8 studying a day?

Hey! In order to understand what is a reasonable target, we need to know your individual scores in Verbal and Quant. Additionally, it will also help for you to assess each question the diagnostic test. As you say, if most questions were wrong because you hadn't revised quant concepts recently, that is easy to tackle. Additionally, look at Verbal section as not a test of your grammar or English communication skills but rather a test of logic and most efficient way to communicate. My suggestion would be to consider e-GMAT for Verbal as I had a very pleasing experience with them. You can also go through the numerous experiences in the 'Share GMAT Experience' section in this site to understand how many many other applicants have tackled low confidence in Verbal.

All the best!

Hi Martijndnl1995,

Firstly don't get discouraged by this score. You can find lots of stories, on gmatclub, in which people have achieved their dream score in subsequent attempts.

Your score suggests you are lacking basics in both Quant and Verbal.
For Quant, I would suggest you go thru Manhattan Quant guides and couple them with GMAT club tests, which will help you reach Q48+.

For verbal, I would suggest you enroll for egmat.

All the best!

Hi Martijndnl1995,

Many Test Takers are unhappy with their initial practice scores, but you really shouldn't be. That 420 is just a measure of your skills right now - and you'll improve on that result over time as you learn more about the content, Tactics and little 'secrets' of the Exam. That having been said, raising a 420 to the point that you can consistently score 650+ will likely require at least another 3 months of consistent, guided study - and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. You might need to consider pushing back your planned Test Date.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) What study materials are you currently using?
2) Do you have an Official Test Date scheduled yet (and if so, then when is it?)?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
4) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi Martijndnl1995,

Honestly, 420 with no prior studying is not that bad! Certainly, 480 hours is a lot of study time, but you may burn out studying 8 hours a day, so just keep tabs on how you are feeling and don’t overdo it. Is there a particular reason why you need to take the GRE in 2 months? Also, do you need any advice regarding your study plan?
