I just feel people "waste" GMATPrep by taking it too late in the day. There are a few hundred questions you can get from GMATPrep if you know how to exploit it well. My point is ensure you take that in the last 2 weeks. Before that spread out the GMATPrep evenly and take it atleast 4 times. If you take it at a 600-level and then improve to go to a 700-level then the questions you will encounter will be different.

Arun

PS: I am still new to the forum so not sure how the GMATClub questions stack up against the rest.

Hello again!

What I've completed in last few days:
GMATClub.com tests m#02 & m#05 - 26/37 correct on both
Completed CR questions (had about 15 left) from OG12
Given a Kaplan PS test from their CD

Tomorrow I'm planning on taking a practice test from PowerPrep OR Kaplan.
Which one do you guys think I should take at this time? I need to practice a test, but I also need to know where I stand...

Help!

Take it from Powerprep. 2 reasons for it:

1. Algorithm is easier than GMATPrep but still very indicative (better than Kaplan)

2. Questions are ofcourse "standard" GMAT questions

Only flip is you might see questions from OG.

Thanks Arun...
did just that and got a 670 (Q47 V35) score on PowerPrep#1. Had a major pacing problem on verbal, had to guess atleast 4-5 questions randomly in the end. No repeats on Quant. but did encounter around 1 CR, 1-2 RC from OG12. But had to rework these questions cos they were difficult/long ones anyway, so don't think it skewed my score. Normally I finish Verbal with time left on my hands, but I think i got really tired - did AWA sections also.

I plan on completing leftover OG12 questions by 31st Dec and give 2 more GMATClub Math tests on 1st Jan. I am NOT doing any more questions from Grockit, because I felt I had seen similar questions on Grockit that I saw on PowerPrep today, or questions that just really helped me figure out the answer quickly.

Anyone think I should buy PowerScore CR bible? Yet to look at my accuracy on PowerPrep so I'll update in the evening once i'm through putting in everything in my error log.

Feeling good with the Q47 though...looks like practice really helps. And I'm confident that i have a large potential to increase my verbal score...so i'm hoping for the best!

Random points:

1. Not to burst your baloon but Q47 on Powerprep is not something to be too excited about - works out to about 45 on the actual GMAT if heuristics are to be believed.

2. Good that you were able to realize that mental stamina is a huge component of GMAT.

What is more important is to ask yourself these questions when you take any practice test:

a. Did I manage my time well? Was there a faster way to do any question?

b. Why did I get the questions wrong ? Is there a concept I can learn?

c. Was I able to hold my nerves? Did my mental stamina last for the full test?

If you are able to benefit from the above, the 3-digit GMAT score you see at the end should not play too much on your mind.

3. Powerscore Bible is an overkill if your already doing well on CR but a good reference if you want to iron out specific pain points.

4. Grockit rehashes a lot of GMAT questions from OG 10, changing very little. So all questions will look familiar. This is a caveat emptor for many other material you will see - what is important is that you understand the concepts well.

Ok...actually I found the quant quite easy...went through the mistakes I made and most of them were silly mistakes I could've easily done right...there was 1 probability question though were I was stumped - I really need to revisit this topics...don't even remember the basics...

Well...because the quant was so easy, the methods I used were pretty much similar to the explanations given in PowerPrep review...usually I can't pace well on quant so I was happy that this time I managed to finish on time...verbal - i obv didn't pace well...had to make very quick guesses on last 5 questions, with last 2 being completely random guesses (got both of these wrong).

b. Why did I get the questions wrong ? Is there a concept I can learn?
Verbal: SC - most of my errors were here, and most of them were Idioms! I need to go through this chapter in MGMAT SC for sure now. CR - got only 1 wrong. RC - again just 1 wrong.

Quant: Def need to look at Probability, but that's about it...

c. Was I able to hold my nerves? Did my mental stamina last for the full test?
Nope...when I saw I hadn't paced well in Verbal, I got really tensed way before the pressure actually began...thankfully I still managed to correctly answer most of these questions, but still...it's not fun...and yes, by the time I got to Verbal...I was already wishing the test was over already.
