There is much room in improving your quant score. Manhattan prep strategy guides are the best option for quant concepts, so you can go through them. Explore the link here: https://gmatquantum.com/official-guides/

I'm quite distraught with a 570 - I studied quite a lot, but clearly, not enough. With a Q38 and V31, I would like to think that I can do significantly better. What strategies/study plans should I use to go to a 650+ in my future exam, in a months time?

Resources used:
- GMAT Official Guide 21(50%), Verbal Review(20%), and GMAT Advanced(Did 50% questions, but got only 50% of those right).
- Veritas Prep Books(Quant)
- GMAT All the Verbal(SC, CR and RC) .
- Wizako Online Learning(Quant)

I study a humanities subject, so I'm more comfortable with Verbal, but not significantly(as I found out :? ). How do I improve this score in a month? I studied around 70-100 hours. Can I make it? Or is an attempt waiting to fail? Motivate me guys!

Hey,

Even I scored a 570 in my first GMAT attempt with 43 on quant and 26 in verbal. I didn't know what else to study but then I got in touch with a mentor and realized that there's lot more than just the concepts to learn for GMAT. I started focusing on the approach and the methodology and I started seeing the results. I eventually improved my score to 720. You can go through my debrief below to understand a few tips.

Debrief of My journey from 570 to 680 to 720:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/my-journey-f ... l#p2648110

I suggest you to choose a right resource to study which can help you with the methodology and which can help you to work on your weak areas. I personally used GMATWhiz course after my first attempt of 570. You can check that out. All the best :)

Hi ADas1508,

I'm sorry to hear about how things went with your GMAT. I'm happy to provide some advice but would first like to learn some more about your situation. Once you respond to the questions already asked, I can provide some advice.

Hi ADas1508,

The key to scoring well on GMAT is doing your prep in the right way. And to do that, you need to understand what is actually tested on GMAT. Once you understand that, you will be able channel your prep accordingly and you will see the results coming. Let me help you here.

What is tested on GMAT?

GMAT mainly tests your application skills more than your conceptual skills. So, the general tendency of practicing questions after learning concepts doesn't work here. You need to include a very important step before you start practicing questions, which is learning the right methodology to solve questions. The more you focus on the methodology, the better your performance is going to be.

The path ahead:

I'm sure you must have learnt the concepts and practiced 'N' number of questions by now. But you still have a few weak areas which you have to work on. So, the first step would be to jot down your weak areas and make a proper study plan to work on them. Once you are clear with the tasks, your preparation will be a lot more structured.

Looking at your performance, I see that there is a scope for improvement in both quant and verbal. So, you need to make sure you dedicate ample amount of time for both quant and verbal, work on your weak areas, improve your accuracy, take the mocks and book the slot only when you score consistently in your mocks.

If you wish to improve your score in a month, you have to be ready to put in a lot of effort. More than the days, it comes down to the number of hours you can study. So, make sure you can dedicate good number of hours in a day to study. And I see that you are shuffling across multiple resources, which is not suggested. Choose a standard resource which can help you with the methodology and to work on your weak areas. Do not rely on too many resources. If you aren't using any, you can check out the GMATWhiz online course.

I would like to have a detailed discussion with you so that I can understand your concerns and weak areas, which will help me to suggest you a better plan of action. You can use the below link to get in touch with me.

I would like to briefly tell you about myself I am a banking professionals with over 6 years of experience and is keen for doing an MBA from India.
Now my GMAT journey started in 2017 when i took offline classes at jamboree centre in Jaipur ( but is was clear waste of time). Because of some career and family had to pause my preparation , which was almost nill. Now I am in mumbai gave GMAT twice 570 ( Q48 V21) in sep 20 (online). Now today again gave it got 560 (Q47 V21) at centre. Although my scores in Experts global tests were above 600 ( 620 & 30 even 670). I have done OG OG review and various old questions provided from Crackverbal as I have joined the platform and have found that useful.
Now what I felt in today at the exam hall was that I was unable to trace the errors and even use my brain to analyze the arguments and was just marking them. Same thing happened last time but that time was I was about zero in verbal no tricks no strategies no skim scan techniques , in SC I did not knew much as I know today. Kindly tell me how to overcome this and get a good score. Also from classroom coaching of Jamboree to its online platform and now to crackverbal I have spent enough money on preparations. Kindly guide me how to improve in minimum time.

Hi

You have to focus more on verbal. Techniques, scanning, and skimming cannot help one to secure a good score. you have to focus on the meaning and pattern of sentences. Try to master concepts from the manhattan prep strategy guides. I recommend a live course: https://www.thegmatco.com/gmat-intensive/

Best wishes!

Hi mayankgalav17,

To start, you would likely receive more of a response if you start your own post-thread (instead of piggy-backing on this one).

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals (and you should answer these questions - as well as provide any additional information - in your new thread):

Studies:
1) How long have you studied in total? How many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used over the course of ALL of your studies? What "brands" of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

You might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Hi Mayank, it is clear that your Verbal score needs to move, to move the needle on your GMAT score.

Which are your pain points in Verbal? Do you have a ESR you can share/PM me?

p.s. Since you are considering a reattempt, this article will help.
