Wouldn't stop u from that but, no one gets promoted every year, besides the deadline are in the best 15 days, so good luck! But trust me if you want to get into a Top B-School (M7 or so) you need a good GMAT. Some good GMAT takes time.
Unless the 610 is just a accidental score.
Columbia gives you a GMAT grace period of 30 days

. Apply then give GMAT in 30 days and report the score immediately. That can help you I think. But trust me not all schools do that.
And it's really not another year. It's just 6 more months,

If you get a GOOD GMAT, you'll get in easily.
There are B-Schools such as Katz, Degroote (Canada), Merage, etc that will take you in WITH A 630-640
The bigger B-Schools definitely are hungry for a Good GMAT.
