Wouldn't stop u from that but, no one gets promoted every year, besides the deadline are in the best 15 days, so good luck! But trust me if you want to get into a Top B-School (M7 or so) you need a good GMAT. Some good GMAT takes time.

Unless the 610 is just a accidental score.
Columbia gives you a GMAT grace period of 30 days :). Apply then give GMAT in 30 days and report the score immediately. That can help you I think. But trust me not all schools do that.
And it's really not another year. It's just 6 more months, :)
If you get a GOOD GMAT, you'll get in easily.

There are B-Schools such as Katz, Degroote (Canada), Merage, etc that will take you in WITH A 630-640

The bigger B-Schools definitely are hungry for a Good GMAT.

Everything matters.
It's a "Holistic" process as they say, right?
But GMAT is an important component for 2 reasons, done companies in top B-Schools look at your GMAT so the Bschools try that candidates have at least a 7 in front of their scores. :)

Regarding LOR, you can always get another recommender tell the tales of your Glory. Meanwhile you can engage in community service. :) Adds value to application. And anyhow, if you don't get into the top ones, you'll still have a good GMAT and get it tier 2 :)

Yes. I would follow everything mentioned in there.
Jamboree has a blue book. It has all the old and new GMAT official material.

But so does the questions directory of GMATClub. The paper based GMAT questions and LSAT can help you practice

Hi abaisla,

I’m sorry to hear how things went with your GMAT. Unfortunately, improving to 700+ in just a month is going to be quite difficult. Looking at your ESR, for verbal, CR and RC appear to be your weakest topics. Would you like some advice on how to improve your CR and RC skills? For quant, there are no clear weaknesses, as you seem to have struggled in different areas across your two exams. In any case, would you also like some general advice on how to improve your quant skills? In the meantime, you may find it helpful to read the following article:

How to Score a 700+ on the GMAT — A Mini Guide for Success

Hi abaisla,

I've sent you a PM with an analysis of your recent ESR and some additional questions.
