Yes, I understand, but in mock tests when you get, for example, 4 errors in Quant, you can get a score of 86. I just don’t understand how there can be such a discrepancy between the scores.

Same for Verbal — in some mock tests I’ve had more than 9 errors and still got the same score of 82. It’s so strange.

The GMAT's scoring algorithm adjusts question difficulty based on your responses. More importantly, errors on easier questions can disproportionately impact your score, because the algorithm penalizes mistakes on easy questions more heavily than mistakes on hard questions. So, for example, if you get 4 easy questions wrong in the Quant section, your Quant score will be lower than if you get 4 hard questions wrong in the Quant section.

So what should 1 do - try to give like 10-15 questions first max time and try to get them write so that the algorithm makes us move to the higher level questions and so higher score and just guess on last 5.
Or distribute time evenly across questions?

Hello, I was wondering whether scoring 625 on the GMAT Focus with 5 errors in Quant (score 79), 5 errors in Verbal (score 82), and 4 errors in Data Insights (score 82) is not a bit weird.
I had seen information before and taken multiple GMAT Club tests where 8 errors in Data Insights could still give an 82, and similarly in Quant, around 4 errors could sometimes result in an 82.
So I was wondering whether this is just how the algorithm works, or if there might be something unusual, because I had this scoring pattern in mind and was quite surprised when I received my official results.
Thank you for your response, and sorry for the disturbance.
