Dear Members.
As I gained so much info from GMATCLUB, I thought I would take a moment to share my experience and give back.
My journey ended on October 2017 by scoring Q50 and V38 = 720. GMAT prep was very difficult for me, trying to find time to study while working hard and many times I doubted myself scoring above 700. I considered my October test as my last one and luckily, I achieved my target score. I hope that my tips can be helpful.
General Prep Tips
- Make error-logs for all sections. Pinpoint the area you constantly get wrong.
- For beginners, I recommend you to buy the Manhattan GMAT books, the whole collection.
- For international students, be aware that it may take you about a year to prep and verbal is tough.
Verbal SC/CR Verbal RC So there are many strategies for this section. Read thoroughly, skim it, reading the first and last sentence. For me, reading very thoroughly the first time helped me greatly, not only in accuracy but also in saving time because I didn't have to go back to the passage much often.
Quant PS- Make error log and pinpoint the area you are weak.
- I DID NOT study combination and probability at all. I tried but they did not make any sense. Rather, I used the saved up time on studying other sections.
- Solve as many problems as possible. After solving many problems, you will see that they are all testing you on selected concepts.
- If you have no idea where to begin, don't attempt and waste time. Skip it.
Quant DS- I would be honest, this section troubled me for a long time. About 3 months before my final gmat exam, I decided to take a course from Math Revolution. That course was extremely helpful. The course is really cheap. I would recommend the course.
- Many traps in this section. I would strongly recommend people to be super careful in easy questions.
Test day tips
- Manage your time so that you can finish to the end. I feel like there is a huge penalty in not finishing.
- For Quant, I think the first 10 and the last 5 questions are very important. I would like to emphasize the last 3-5 questions as they have been medium level questions that can be answered if you just have enough time.
- Bring energy drink and bar and eye drops.
Wish everyone good luck.
Victor.
