Hi all,

I plan to give my 2nd attempt around August mid. So I basically have around 2 weeks in hand. My current mock scores are;

1) Gmatprep Mock 1 - 660 (Q45,V36)
2) Gmatprep Mock 2 - 660 (Q46,V36)

These were given within a span of two weeks, I have also given 4 gmatclub quant tests (scores ranging from Q40-44).
I have used OG books, Gmatclub questions up till now. Even took an offline prep course. I want to achieve a balanced score of around Q49 and V37.
My major errors in quants which I've noticed basis my error log are calculation, reading ,and a few conceptual errors. Topics - Word problems/ Inequalities DS questions.

I don't want to delay my exam as application rounds will soon begin (planning for a MIM). Can someone please help with what action plan I should come up with to achieve a 700 score? (Want to avoid joining a new prep course now though with just 2 weeks in hand)

Thanks for hearing :please: :-P

Hi Prithvi08,

You've clearly made some nice improvements since your very first CAT/mock (back in late 2020), but since your studies go back over 2.5+ years, it's likely that you developed some 'habits' that are currently keeping you from scoring higher. By extension, you might need more than another 2 weeks of additional study before you will be able to consistently score 700+.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) On what date did you take your 1st Official GMAT and how did you score (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
2) For this 2nd attempt, how long have you been studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
3) Have you taken any other CATs/mocks this year besides the two that you listed (and how many times have you taken each of those 2 Official CATs?)?
4) What are your current application plans/deadlines?

Yeah like after my first attempt I actually dropped gmat for quite sometime and focused more on my job since I was a fresh graduate at the time. Now coming to your questions

1) Don't remember the actual date but it was in June,2021. Scored a 600 (Q44,V29)

2) I have been studying for around 3.5 months now with approx. 30 hours a week (Sundays I take an off though haha)

3) Other than these I took one which my offline course offered. I found its algorithm weird tbh (scored a 510 on that. Q17V36 -->Q17?? don't believe it). I had taken the first two official mocks previously in 2020 but those scores got erased from the system for some reason plus I don't remember seeing repeats in my this attempt.

4) So I wanted to be done with my applications by September but that seems dicey so I'm mostly gonna focus on Round 2. Basically wanna get done with this by August max and start working on my applications.

I honestly believe if I stop making silly errors in Quants, I can raise my score to atleast a 700  In the second Gmatprep mock like an idiot I wasted a total of 8 mins on 2 consecutive questions that were 700 level. Though I somehow got them correct, it majorly impacted my timing towards the end.

Hi Prithvi08,

If you have a list of specific Schools that you plan to apply to in the coming months, then you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement (and the more time that you have to act on that advice, the better). There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

I've also sent you a PM with some additional notes and advice.

Hi Prithvi08,

To improve your quant skills, you may find it helpful to engage in topical quant practice.

For example, let’s say that you want to practice Number Properties. You can do so by answering 50 or more questions just from Number Properties: LCM, GCF, units digit patterns, divisibility, remainders, etc.

After each problem set, thoroughly analyze your incorrect questions. For example, if you got a remainder question wrong, ask yourself why. Did you make a careless mistake? Did you not properly apply the remainder formula? Was there a concept you did not understand in the question?

By carefully analyzing your mistakes, you will be able to fix your weaknesses efficiently and, in turn, improve your GMAT quant skills. Number Properties is just one example; follow this process for all quant topics.
