I had my second GMAT on 17th and i got a score that i would have been satisfied with before going into the exam.I scored a 710-Q48 V40.
My previous attempt was a slightly dicey score of 670-Q47 V 35 but i decided to retake the GMAT. I belong to the Indian IT male section of the applicants and hence wanted to increases my chances. After reading bb's comments on "whether to retake or not" thread i retook the test and i am glad that i did.
GMAT I-670-Q47 V35
I prepared for close to two months by taking a break from work.Mode of preparation was mainly Self Study-OG12,OG12 Verbal review,Kaplan Premier and loads and loads of stuff on this forum. However, i feel i did not gave enough practice tests before the exam(6 Kaplan Premier and 4 GMAT prep).
On the test day, i took the afternoon slot.As expected, i was a little nervous, but the AWA went past without much trouble.I completed Maths section in time and felt that i was on course for a decent score. But then came the Verbal section.I think i was doing alright till the middle of the section after which i just imploded.Lengthy SCs and too-close-to call options in CR drowned me.Honestly, while submitting my score i thought i'll get some thin in the range of 550ish.Initially, I was relieved to see a 670 and i felt i had done enough to give myself a chance for a good MBA program.
GMAT II-710-Q48 V40
But in the following months, I realized that i would need an amazing amount of luck to land in a top program with a 670 and hence i decided in December-2010 to retake the test.
Preparation:
I started preparing for the second time around April 1st week.I joined a GMAT preparation program of one of the leading institutes in New Delhi since i did not want to take any more chances.I attended classes for 2 months and then put in 1..5-2 months of self study.
Tests:6 Manhattans GMAT
4 GMAT PREPs
2 Kaplan-OLD
3 Free tests-Kaplan,Veritas,Knewton
My scores ranged from 650 to720 in all the above tests.
Sentence Correction
OFFICIAL QUESTIONS ONLY.The most important thing to note while doing SC is the source of questions.I decide not to use the 1000SCs or for that matter even the Brutal SCs(available on this forum). I think its totally dependent on the individual.
Critical Reasoning
Official guide material is good but i found lot of help on this forum at the CR forum.Good strong questions and discussions.
Reading Comprehension
Use you OWN technique.Do at least 1-2 RCs everyday for 2 months.I found that strategy very useful.
Quantitative
OG is NOT sufficient. Also, i found quant Manhattan questions to be of good standard.Awesome reading and revising material available on this forum as well.
Thats the debrief. Thanks for teh help GMATCLUB.Let the applications begin.
