I've been studying on and off for my Gmat since the beginning of this year. My target score was 700+; coming from an overrepresented background (Indian, but thankfully not engineering), I thought that would be enough to get into some of the t-30 colleges.

I studied for about three months for my first attempt from Magoosh, at the end of which I got 680. I was disappointed with the score since I thought I had given more than enough effort in that attempt. Nevertheless, I decided to study a little more to try and get to the bracket I had been aiming for. Putting in another four months of effort and my hectic 11-hour job, I got a 670 on this attempt. It completely shattered me, so I decided to make peace with it and apply to some colleges with the score.

But I need more than this score to get into the colleges I want to. I need advice on whether I should power through another month, try to get a better score and then apply to R2, or should I use R2 at the same colleges and hope for the best?

I would appreciate any advice on prep or on my strategy to apply.

No stranger to that curse myself because the requirements certainly expect a higher score from OR pool

Here's something that helps break what I call the GMAT plateau- https://gmatclub.com/forum/beginner-to- ... l#p2313182

A good rule of thumb is to not to take any test when you see 60-80% of new questions (official) and can say the phrase- "ok this option is wrong because it follows xyz trap"

GMAT is a pattern based test.

Hi Kartikay262,

If you think you can keep improving your GMAT score, I would keep working on your GMAT and apply for round 2.

Sorry for th delay - Thank you all for your responses, After a lot of deliberation, I have decided to reattempt the GMAT after taking a quick break to reset.

For Rich's query -

I cancelled the GMAT score so I cannot provide you with the ESR. I have my older ESR, if that is something that might help provide some insights, I can share the with you

Studies:
1) On what dates did you take your 2 Official GMATs and what were the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each result?
a. GMAT 1 - 16/05/2023 - 680 (49Q and 32V)
b. GMAT 2 - 09/09/2023 - 670 (48Q and 34V) (I might be wrong about the Verbal score - but there was definitely an improvement from last time)
2) How many hours did you typically study each week?
- I was able to dedicate about 5-6 hours a week. Some weeks those numbers went up by a lot
3) Have you used any other study materials besides the course that you listed? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
- I have used Magoosh and E-GMAT courses. I've only attempted official Mocks from GMAC
4) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
- It was varied in all 5, i took 1 raw and got 600, the highest i went to was 700 in my last attempy

Goals:
5) Have you already applied to any Schools? If so, then which ones - and have you heard anything back yet?
- Havent applied to any schools
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to in R2?
- T-30 US B Schools

Hi Kartikay262,

To start, since you are facing some upcoming application deadlines - and you are interested in some highly-competitive Schools - you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement (and the more time that you have to implement those suggestions, the better). There's a Forum full of those Experts here: https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

I've also sent you a PM with some notes and additional questions.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
