Hi all,
I just took the GMAT today and ended up with a 690 (Q47,V37).
This is already my second attempt.
My first attempt was 1.50 years ago, and the score was really low: 570 (Q48,V21).
I was quite disappointing with my score today because I aimed for 700+, and it was actually only 10 points behind.
But I already booked for the third attempt next month,
so I need advice on the strategy, plan, and resources that may improve my score. My scores from the GMATPrep software ranged from 660-760, with most scores around 700+.
For quant, the scores range from 47-50 with most scores at 48-49 (only one attempt with 47).
For verbal, the scores range from 33-44 with most scores at 37-38.
However, these scores may be a bit inflated because I have already seen some of the problems before.
I also took
MGMAT CAT, and the scores range from 640-700+
On both first and second attempt, I took PR course (got a 75% discount for the second time).
Actually math is my strength because I have an engineering background.
Verbal may be more of my weakness since English is not my native language, but I was doing quite well with other standardized English tests eg. SAT and IELTS (I know it’s not a representative of the GMAT scores).
For math, DS is my weakness, so before the second attempt I managed to go through a lot of DS questions, but still the accuracy is not that good comparing to PS.
I think my accuracy on PS is around 90-95%, but for DS is somewhere around 75-80%.
I am quite disappointed with 47 because the percentile is only 76.
I'm not sure if I spent too much time on the first 10 questions so it was a bit hurry toward the end.
I’m thinking of going through all the quant strategy focusing on DS again with new resources
(I think PR is too easy). Is this a good idea?
Can anyone suggest the extra resources for math strategy and practices that I can finish in 1 month? For verbal, my weakness is RC because I use the careful reading strategy, which takes quite a long time.
However, I think that my accuracy for RC is a bit higher than those of SC and CR.
Anyway, I had only less than 15 minutes for the last 11 questions.
I’m pretty sure there is still room for improvement on my verbal.
Should I try to increase my pace?
How can I improve my pace without sacrificing my accuracy?
Any extra resources I should use to prepare? (I have gone through MGMAT SC and RC book).Sorry for writing such a long post, and thank you if you read it until the end.
Also, I have heard that 690 is significantly different to 700 for adcom, is it true?
If you have any suggestion, please advice. I’m taking the test again next month. Thank you for your kind help.
