Working with a Infosys as a Senior Software developer in Financial Services domain. My role involves working in close co-ordination with clients (primarily US clients like SunTrust Banks and Morgan Stanley) and other stake holders to understand the business and help customize and tailor the software application as per specific requirements. The work my team does directly impact their businesses (both internal as well as external) considerably in terms of efficiency as well as innovation. My work has facilitated businesses to run better providing increased client and business users’ satisfaction.
I wish to pursue MBA to further delve deep into understanding and acquiring the business know-how of things. I am particularly keen on following the path of consultant/banking role post MBA.
Apart from work I have done several courses from Harvard which are available to us as an initiative between Harvard and Infosys. I have been actively involved in sports and have won medals for my college/company in Basketball, Cricket etc. Also, I have been an active volunteer with various NGOs and have worked in improving the employability of rural women by arranging for tailoring(stitching) classes for them thereby making them self-sufficient. Also, I have been involved with an NGO where I teach spoken English to rural kids.
I took the GMAT last week and scored 710 (Q 49 V38 IR 5 AWA 5)
I have shortlisted the following schools:
Kellogg
Darden
UCLA
Tepper
Ross
ISB
Any help would be appreciated..!!
Thanks,
Gaurav
Hey Guarav!
So first of al congrats on that GMAT! Well done, dude.
Sooo the way I see things,
The good stuff:
- GMAT
- Good employer
- Team work
The challenges:
- Indian/Male/IT Candidate
- Non IIT grad
- Good but not great GPA
- Weak community service
Finally I do have one question mark: What makes you DIFFERENT????? What makes you UNIQUE????? Right now, I see you did some tech work, some tutoring... okay, like every other Indian candidate!!!!

But really, what will make you stand out??? That is what you have to ask yourself (and that is what you have to tell the AdCom!)
Your school list is a bit tough. I think you can apply to some of the schools on your list, but they would be for the most part stretch schools for you. And you should add some schools in the 15-40 rankings (I'm referring to the US News rankings). The competition is VERY tough at the top, especially for Indian candidates, and especially for Indian Tech candidates. And without IIT, without 30 points more on your GMAT, and without an amazing GPA it will make things hard.
Whereas if you moderate your goals a wee bit, you can probably reach your career goals through another excellent MBA program.
I do hope this helps!
Best,
Jon
