First of all, congrats on the 730!

I'm no GMAT expert, but I'll provide some thoughts based on what I've read, heard, etc.

How influential is my IR score going to be?
1) Are you going into consulting or banking? I read an article that IR scores will be looked at for recruiting purposes. In fact someone from Bain & Co. mentioned that they will be screening out applications based on IR score.
2) I've also read that Stanford came out and said that they will not be judging applicants on IR scores for a few years.
3) IR has been around for only 2 years so a) all applicants haven't taken this portion of the test and b) that's not enough time for schools to judge how IR scores correlate with success in B-School(jobs, grades, etc)

Are my Quant and Verbal scores good enough for programs in INSEAD, IE, IESE, ISB, Columbia, HAAS, NUS?
1) If you look at the website for each of these schools you will find the Median 80% of GMAT scores.
2) Are you an Indian IT Male? From my understanding that's an over represented applicant pool and the higher the GMAT, the better. If not, you're going to have to find a way to differentiate yourself from the rest.
3) Are you part of an under represented minority or under represented applicant pool? In this case your score may mean more considering your unique background.

Again, I'm no expert, but I wanted to provide my thoughts.

^^ Thanks a lot for your valuable input. No I am not really interested in Consulting or Banking, I am more inclined towards Marketing or Technology. Although I am not on solid ground right now to decide but yea, so far I guess marketing and technology are the areas I would want to see myself working in. I havent yet gone through the websites and the median scores. And yes, I am an IT guy from India. I am hoping that my quant and verbal scores suffice. I read about the IR scores too, some say that until 2017, they wont be considered too seriously. Do you have any idea about that? And moreover, to put forward a strong application, will 3 years of work experience suffice?

Thanks in advance. :)

From everything that I have read...no one is really sure how important the IR section really is. You already do have quite an impressive quant/verbal score, so I am not sure it would be worth it to you to retake the entire exam in hopes of improving the IR score. Did you devote any time to studying specifically for the IR section while you studied for the GMAT?

To be completely honest everything that I know I stated above. I'm not sure about what year schools will be considering IR scores and to guess would be unfair to you, because it could give you the wrong idea. As far as your candidacy for schools is concerned, I would post your details in the "Evaluate Profile" forum. That way you can get admissions consultants/experts to provide you with feedback.

Thank you for your insight. :)
Well Yea I did. I solved a couple of test sets in the Kaplan and they were good. But before I retake I would really want to know if its the worth the effort and time because otherwise I could use the same time to build my profile.
I did put up evaluate profile on the relevant forum here but i havent received any responses yet and the anticipation is killing me.

HI Nikhil,

If your post Mba field interest is in marketing/ technical; there is absolutely no need to retake the test. Like others mentioned, IR is only monitored in the consulting and banking sectors. You have crushed the gmat already. You do not have to spend more time on it.

Focus on your apps. There are zillions of other desis trying to get into them elite schools you are interested in. Focus on distinguishing yourself from them. Its late in this year's cycle anyway and you dont want to waste any more time on the gmat.

Good luck, dude.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement :). I think amidst all the confusion about IR, the best way to find out is to build a good and distinguishing profile and apply to the universities. I'm sure that with hope and optimism I should crack at least a few of them. If not, there is always a next time. Cheers guys. :)
