Best of luck with the retake (and the intense work too)!

Hi Kate,

Thanks a lot for your response (and apologies for the late reply, work's been intense)!
I'll heed your advice and give it another shot then :)

Hi starryskyes,

740 is a great score, and your Quant especially is impressive. I agree I'd feel better about your AWA at a 5 or higher, but then again, AWA scores are not scrutinized too heavily, since they also have the essays and interviews to evaluate your communication skills. But, since you are from that competitive demographic, you have time, and you only took it once, I would give it one more shot just to see if you can score a bit higher. If not, you can always cancel. It really can't hurt, since schools will consider your highest score.

Good luck!
Kate

Dear mbaMission,

I would really appreciate some advice on whether I should retake the GMAT (since I have time; I'm not applying till R1 2019).

I got 740 (Q50, V40), IR 7, and AWA 4 in my first take, and feel tempted to retake because:
- I'm from a competitive demographic (Chinese, work in management consulting). My colleagues who'll be applying to the same M7 schools have gotten 750-770...
- I'm a non-native speaker and I fear that they will suspect my application essays because I got a dreadfully low AWA.

Cheers.
