Jarvis07 - adding to Ajitesh's point, the more likely reason for these outcomes would be other aspects of your application beyond the score (e.g. work-ex, CV, essays, LoRs etc.)

If you share more details on your profile and narrative, it can help provide a better 'ding analysis'. Feel free to reach out.

Hi All.
I am an Indian Male, 30, Sustainability consultant by profession.
It took me almost an year's time to get to low 600s to 750. When I finally saw the score flashing on the screen, I thought it will finally open up doors of new opportunities for me.
However, one by one, I was rejected by all the major colleges. Tuck, Berkeley, and Kellogg rejected me after an interview, while Yale, Darden, Ross, NYU did not even invite me for the interview.
Is this a common pattern this year for Indians? I have heard things are much more difficult for Indians this year. Plus, classic score guys are facing much higher competition from FE guys, because it is easier to score higher percentile there.
What are your thoughts on this? Could anyone offer some suggestion how to gear up for the next year?

For now, I have started to prepare for FE edition, trying to score 745+ to stand out.

I don't think it is easier to score higher in FE as compared to the Classic GMAT since scoring algorithm is unforgiving in FE. Nevertheless you should try for GMAT FE. In my opinion, how you fill the application form and show leadership qualities is also quite important for getting interview invite

PS. Schools similarly ding applicants with 745. I personally know one who applied last year to LBS and did not even get an interview invitation. It was actually very stupid on the LBS side not to interview her because she was very capable. She got into INSEAD with a nice scholarship... just illustrates that school sometimes make bad decisions, but if you have applied to a wide range of programs, they are unlikely to make a bad decision consistently.

The fact that they have interviewed you, indicates that the quick look at your profile which includes looking at your score and glancing at your resume made them interested in you. Getting denied without a waitlist, indicates they did not find what they were looking for when they reviewed your application in more detail, including essays, goals, short answers and letters of recommendation.

So since you have already got their attention the first time but they didn’t like the details, that is the most likely source of your predicament.

Hi Arun. Thanks a lot for your response. I do have a low college score (68%) and I work for a small consulting firm which may not be known to many. But I think these are issues I can't fix (at least in short term). Besides these, I did position my application as a sustainability enthusiast, who wants to get into sustainability consulting. Was that a mistake, given sustainability is a niche segment? Also, can you advice if I can get my profile or essays reviewed from someone who can advice what went wrong?

Hi Jarvis07,

I'm sorry to hear that, and I totally get your focus on improving your GMAT score even further. However, with a score like 750, there are almost certainly other issues you need to look at. Have you identified any areas of improvement (professional/personal) and gotten feedback on your essays?

Agreed. Thanks a lot for the response. I guess it is time I do a deeper introspection to see what went so horribly wrong.

Hi BB. Thanks a lot for your comment. It also instilled some more confidance. Do we have any resources here on GMATClub, where I can get my profile or maybe essays evaluated?

Hi Jarvis07,

You could reach out to a consultant. You could also reach out to friends/family (preferably someone with an MBA), and speaking with current students/alumni is always a great option.

As for your question about positioning yourself as a sustainability enthusiast, I usually recommend going with what you're actually interested in. Although there can be exceptions to that, sustainability itself shouldn't be an issue, as long as you can show them the path from where you are > MBA > goal(s).

Hi. Sorry! 750 is a fantastic score. I don’t think the old GMAT folks are being discriminated against by the way. Schools are much more comfortable with the old gmat than the new one. I am not sure 745 is worth it with 750. M7s are picky but not that picky.... I think the challenge may be in something else such as goal mismatch or something schools don’t love on your profile or indeed being not competitive enough in the pool. This is may be the situation where you may pay for ding analysis and get a consultant or two to review your profile, essays, resume, etc. it will take a few hours. If you are cheap, start with Chat GPT and ask it to review your application for weaknesses and you can also as it to improve. A consultant could do more and will have good references from this year but it takes time and money (sorry I don’t have a recommendation). However I think the score alone is the challenge. However if you feel you can score really high, that would be valuable at a place such as Stern or Tepper who will give a scholarship for that. Not sure what your goal is but M7 or bust is a fine strategy but only if you are prepared to walk away. Otherwise if your goal is a job after an MBA, most top 20 programs offer very similar opportunities for most industries.

Guaranteed, it's something in your application/profile that held back your admissions. That could be something addressable if you apply in future rounds -- especially if your brainstorming and story cultivation fell short in key areas.
