To clarify, this was my
1st retake attempt.
Only scored a 705 - Q88/V85/DI82 on my actual 1st attempt.
I did take all 6 official practice tests,
1st practice test - 695 - Q88/V85/DI81
2nd practice test - 735 - Q90/V80/DI89
3rd practice test - 735 - Q90/V84/DI84
4th practice test - 715 - Q87/V85/DI84
5th practice test - 785 - Q90/V90/87
1st Official Test - 705 - Q88/V85/DI826th practice test - 705 - Q87/V87/DI81
2nd Official Test - 755 - Q90/V88/DI81Hot Take (This is just my opinion, don't mean to offend anyone): I believe there is quite a bit of luck and randomness involved for scoring in the new GMAT Focus in the score range of 705-805. I think as GMAC has increased the difficulty of scoring a 700, but hasn't increased the difficulty of questions as such, 1 percentile of candidates are spread over a 100 points, making it such that a test-taker on a bad day gets 705 but on a good day, gets much higher. So, if you believe you are in the 99-100 percentile bracket and have scored low in your current attempt, I think just taking the GMAT Focus again with no change in prep might get you to a better score from just pure randomness and luck.
Context & Experience for the take: I am a final year uni student from India. Planned to take the GMAT to apply to deferred MBAs this year. I had prepared for competitive exams (JEE) previously before getting into Uni, so wasn't very worried about Quant but knew I had some work to do for Verbal. I prepared on and off from October and started giving practice exams regularly from 10th Nov 2023. Decided to give GMAT Focus over OG because of the lack of SC. The recurring pattern I noticed in my practice tests was, I kept making silly mistakes in Quant and DI and wasn't able to solve all my CR questions in Verbal. Decided after a point to just take the test, so scheduled my 1st Attempt on 16th Dec 2023 off the back of a strong 785 on my practice test 5.
1st exam day, my order was Verbal -> Quant -> break -> DI. The reasoning here was, I felt I needed some time for my brain to warm up and be attentive, so didn't want to start with a section where I was prone to silly mistakes. I was prudent to spend extra time on CR questions in my verbal section to make sure I get them right as these were the questions I kept getting wrong in the practice tests. I felt my quant section went without hiccups and tried to recheck as many questions as I could in the extra time I had. Data Insights was much more difficult in comparison, I'm not sure if it was because I had spent too much mental energy or if the questions themselves were difficult, but I could visibly see me spending more time per question in DI than I had in the practice tests. Expectedly had very little time by the end of the section, and had to rush my last 6-7 questions. Was pretty disappointed when I saw the 705 flash on my screen.
Analysis of what went wrong:
Verbal (Overconfidence) - Spend so much time on CR questions that I spent too little time on RC questions, resulting in me getting 2 RC questions wrong. My only mistakes in the whole section.
Quant (Silly Mistake) - Just as I feared, had made a silly mistake in the section.
DI (Too taxed/ wasn't expecting the type of questions asked) - I felt too mentally taxed by the time I completed the first 2 section, I believe it might have been because of exam pressure an me trying to be hyper focussed in my first 2 sections. The questions I saw in DI in the official exam were a bit different than the ones I saw in the practice tests, they were a bit more verbose and even saw a few DS questions which were completely verbal involving no calculations. All this resulted in me getting 4 out of my last 5 questions being wrong in the section.
I knew I had to retake as I was planning to target M7 schools and I was sadly a part of the last category in

To be honest, I felt a lot of it came down to luck, and wanted to schedule another test immediately. But realised I had to wait at least 16 days before a reattempt. So finally scheduled my 1st reattempt on 8th Jan 2024. Went home for christmas and new years vacation and kinda forgot about GMAT. I gave my last practice exam on 7th Jan and only got 705, but most off my mistakes were from not paying attention to the question. Gave myself some copium saying I scored less on the practice exam so will get a better score in the real test and went to sleep.
2nd Exam Day, Used the same order: Verbal -> Quant -> break -> DI. By the time I completed my verbal section, I had like 5 questions marked for review, where I was divided between 2 options. Cheered myself up thinking all I had to do was get full in Quant and DI to make up for Verbal. Quant again felt normal, but in the last 30 secs realised I made a mistake in a question I randomly opened when trying to open a different review marked question, quickly changed the option before section ended, but now all I could think about in my break was how I must've made so many more silly mistakes in quant. I was already thinking about the 30K rupees I now had to waste on my 3rd attempt. Ironically causing me to walk into DI with a lot less pressure, went ok, but again came across quite a few verbal heavy questions I hadn't encountered in the practice exams. Was super surprised when I saw the 755 on screen...
Analysis:
Verbal - Just as I expected had 3 questions wrong, but somehow got a higher score than my first attempt where I only had 2 wrong.
Quant - Surprised when I saw no mistakes.
DI - Had 3 mistakes, which i'm blaming on long passages and silly mistakes.
Honestly, I didn't expect a 755, especially because I felt I made silly mistakes in Quant, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw the score. The score reinforced my belief that luck plays quite a big role in getting a high gmat focus score at the moment. I still feel I left quite a lot of marks on the board, but realised the returns of trying to get a higher score outweighs the cost.
That was pretty much it for my 2 cents, Sorry if the post was too wordy.
Didn't really see too many posts abut GFE experiences so wanted to share mine incase anyone finds it useful.
Happy to answer any questions about my experience.
