Hi,
I need some help in deciding which schools to apply for. I am targeting 2015 R1. Also, I am inclined to apply in R1 for INSEAD Jan 2015 intake. Is it a bad idea? What are my chances? Will really appreciate some help.
Profile: Indian/Male/Engineer/26
GMAT: Total 780, Q51, V47, AWA 4.5
Work Experience: 3.5 years by December 2014
1.5 Years: Founder of company which operates in the B2B retail space. The company has 5 employees and 20+ clients. Revenues not substantial. (My current job)
2 Years: Team leader in a fortune 10 company in financial industry. Led a team of 6 people. (My previous job)
International Exposure:
Though I have only 2 months of international exposure, the quality of it is pretty decent.
Set up a 12 member team in a Philippines, trained the members and migrated a critical process there. (Previous Job)
Education:
Engineering: 6.76/10 (Ranked #5 college in India)
High School: 87% and 83%
Certifications: Both Finance Related (My current role in not related to finance)
-- Professional Risk Manager (PRM)
-- Actuary
Social/Charity
My startup is among very few companies in India to partner with a global charity to raise capital for empowerment of women in developing countries.
College:
Better than average extra curricular. Leadership Roles.
Other Activities:
Regularly write for some e-magazines on topics such as entrepreneurship and marketing. Guest speaker at some conferences.
LT/ST Goal
Expand my business to multiple countries.

Thanks for posting and sharing your background info. Overall you have a solid profile from what I can assess here, and yes it's a good idea to apply R1 for best chances.
Your strengths:
-stand-out GMAT score
-startup experience; sounds successful from what you've described with lots of management and leadership experience/opportunities (and ultimately, experience you'll bring to a b-school classroom)
-quantitative and finance experience, in addition to engineering experience
-some international experience
-the charity work your company does, being that it is your own startup
-writing experience & guest speaker experience (strong communication skills are a plus at b-school)
-extracurriculars presumably, though you have not detailed here
No glaring weaknesses thus far. More detail would be assessed in terms of your work experience, your startup, how the company has evolved and what you've learned from it. Your essays and recommendations would also be important. But if you put together a strong application certainly it sounds like you would be well-positioned for a place at a top business school. Good luck on the process, keep us posted, and come back with any q's!

Thanks a lot Jen for taking time out to evaluate my profile. You have been super kind in you evaluation (No glaring weaknesses) 
But do you think just 3.5 years of total exp and 2 months of international exposure puts me in a tight spot? Am I being too ambitious in targeting INSEAD? I understand that essays would be critical and would try to show the 'best me' in my application.
