Equation :

(90 -8(20:4))/(1/2)

= (90-8(5))*2
= (90- 40)*2
= 50*2
= 100

This is a simple question that tests your knowledge of the order of mathematical operations. For this, we use PEMDAS.

According to PEMDAS, we first evaluate the terms inside the parentheses followed by the other mathematical operations indicated by the other alphabets in the acronym.

(90 – 8 (20:4)). The term 20:4 is a ratio and therefore represents a quotient of two terms; so 20:4 can be replaced by 20/4 which is equal to 5.
Therefore, (90 – 8 (20:4)) = (90 – 8*5) = (90 – 40) = 50.

The original expression now reduces to \(\frac{50}{ (1/2)}\) which can be rewritten as 50 * \(\frac{2}{1}\) = 100.

The correct answer option is C.

Answer option A is a trap for people who are not careful in the last step – remember 50 * ½ =25 and \(\frac{50 }{ (1/2)} \) = 100.

Hope that helps!

\(\frac{90-8(20:4)}{\frac{1}{2}}\)

A) 25
B) 50
C) 100
D) 116
E) 170
Because
20:4 = 5

so numerator will be 90 - 8(5) =50

now (50)/(1/2) =100
