Given:
Price of cupcake : 5$
Price of brownie : 4$

Let the number of brownies be x.
Also, the number of cupcakes are 8-x
We have been given the total amount earned by selling both Cupcakes and Brownies are 34$.

Therefore, 4x + 5(8-x) = 34
4x + 40 - 5x = 34
x = 6.

The total number of brownies ordered are 6(Option E)

A certain bakery sells only cupcakes and brownies, and charges $5 for each cupcake and $4 for each brownie. If Jeremy spent $34 purchasing 8 items at the bakery, how many brownies did he purchase?

A. 2
B. 3
C. 4
D. 5
E. 6

Average price per item =34/8 = $4.25

if there equal amount then average will be $4.5.....it means more brownies than cupcakes

Eliminate A, B & C

check choice D =5
3 *5 + 5 * 4 = 15 + 20 = 35 ...Not equal to amout earned by bakery. then one choice left
